Fantasy Football Mock Drafts on ESPN

I did a mock draft last night on the impressive ESPN Mock Draft Lobby platform. I got into a heated discussion on the chat board about the validity of LT at the 6th pick. I was basically called an idiot for admitting to desiring LT more than Michael Turner. I heard the same veteran RB argument - slow, old, young back stealing carries (Sproles), blah, blah, blah.

Here's how I see it - LT is healthy and relatively fresh (coming off a career low in carries due to nagging injuries), the Chargers are good, their division is not. LT was also more consistent than Turner last year have 10 games with at least 100 total yds or TD (to Turner's 9)...and that was while hurt. Turner caught a mere 6 passes last year. That's just a half dozen more than you and I. Not good for a premier fantasy RB. Regarding the young backups RB stealing carries. Think about this: Sproles had 61 carries and 17 catches last year. Jerious Norwood, Turner's backup, had 95 and 26. The Falcons added Tony Gonzalez and he will surely steal redzone looks from Turner. Granted, LT has a great TE on his team as well but he's been there and LT's been kinda alright over the past few years. Oh, the Falcons schedule is a lot harder this year and they will catch no one off guard, like they did in 2008.

Now, Turner is a great young back but I argue that LT is the safest pick of the top tier RBs. He won't lose goal line carries, he catches 50+ passes, his team is good and plays with the lead often. Forget that he is 30...at least forget about it this season.

I'm hoping he's there for me at 6. I'm also lusting after Steve Slaton at 15 (2nd round pick).

But I keep asking myself, Who Would Jesus Draft? Maybe Christ would go with Turner over LT.

Funny Fantasy Football Draft T-Shirts

My draft is 3 weeks away and my strategy is totally up in the air. I pick 6th in a 10 team redraft league and covet LT. (As of this morning) My dream top 2 picks are LT and Steve Slaton but I fear neither will be there for me at the 6th and 15th slots. I say up in the air because as of 2 weeks ago I was going headfirst into a WR/WR gameplan with my top 2 picks (Andre Johnson/Moss, most likely). Now, that seems like crazy talk.

I pay way too much attention to my 1st round pick every year, knowing it's the gems you find in the 4-8 rounds that matter most. Yet, here we are at the start of a new season and I'm once again stressing about who to take first. Someday I'll learn, right?

I'll be sporting my latest Fantasy Football Champ T-Shirt on draft day this year. Just rubbing my championship in their faces one last time before the new campaign begins.

Oh, and remember to Never Draft your fantasy football while drunk, trust me!

I can't get over the Super Bowl, still. What an amazing game. It's nice that the last couple SB games have been better than the commercials. For a time there (the Colts vs. Bears comes to mind) the games were the undercard to the ads.

One week and One QB down

Wow, Brady is gone. The AFC, and maybe even the AFC East, is totally up for grabs. My team started off with a win with balanced scoring from Jacobs, Kitna (picked up just before week 1) and Andre Johnson who had the perfect fantasy WR experience (losing bad and collects an extra 60 meaningless yards).

I already overhauled my bench when I dropped Kenny Watson and Leon Washington at RB, Nate Burleson and Isaac Bruce at WR. I picked up Sammy Morris and Derrick Ward (who I should not have dropped last week) and then Deion Branch and Mushin Muhammad.

Fantasy Football - Nothing Else Matters!

My re-draft, competitive money league held our annual divisions/draft order selection this past weekend. It's a 4th of July tradition. This way we have close to 7 weeks to geek-out and plan for our draft.

We're a ten team league entering our 8th season. I drew the 5th spot which I'm very happy with. I've never picked in the middle of the draft, always having a pick at the top or bottom with looong waits between every other pick. Also, the 5th spot this year looks to be the last team that will land a premier RB as the 6th guy (Frank Gore, Portis, etc) is a big drop off from the top 5 (LT, AP, Addai, Westbrook, S-Jax). At least that's the way I see it right now.
